Tumble Takes The Gold In The 9th Annual International Galaxy AwardsNew York, NY, December 7, 1998 -- Tumble Interactive Media announced today that it has won a Gold Galaxy Award for the best World Wide Web site in the 9th Annual International Galaxy Awards competition. The award honors the Romantic Times Web site that Tumble created for Romantic Times Magazine.
The site contains book reviews from the last three years of the magazine, as well as author bios, reader's and writer's areas, and a special "Cover Model" with up-to-date information on the latest hunks. Users can purchase any of the books reviewed on the site, through a connection to barnesandnoble.com (www.barnesandnoble.com) who funded the site's development.
To facilitate multiple purchases via the barnesandnoble.com shopping cart, Tumble created a book list function that allows visitors to select multiple titles before proceeding to the barnesandnoble.com site to make their purchases. This is an important feature of the site, as research indicates that the typical romance novel purchaser makes multiple purchases, often on impulse.
In addition to the over 3,500 book reviews on the site, there author profiles and a searchable database of author pseudonyms (romance writers typically use multiple pseudonyms.) The site also includes a threaded discussions area and other special features.
Tumble also took two Finalists Awards in the Galaxy Competition. The first was for a Web site the company created for the Crop Protection division of Novartis and second for a press kit on CD-ROM that Tumble created for ABC Television.
The Galaxy Awards honor professionals who contribute to the process of building image, creating profit and making a difference in the market place. Over 400 entries were received from 8 countries this year.
The GALAXY Awards are sponsored by MerComm, Inc. an independent organization founded with the exclusive purpose of evaluating, measuring and recognizing standards of excellence. As such, entrants are assured that their work is judged objectively and fairly. The GALAXY program is the only competition that is judged by peers in the profession rather than by editors and advertisers.
Each entry is evaluated three separate times during the preliminary rounds. The three sets of scores are then averaged into a single score for individual entry. A certain minimum score must be achieved to qualify for an award. Only one Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Finalist Award will be given in each classification; however, if no entry scores high enough, no award will be given.
