Hearst Corporate site among the Top 10 on the World Wide Web

The Hearst Corporation's web site, www.hearstcorp.com, which Tumble programmed, hosts, and maintains, was rated the 9th best commercial site on the Internet by Lycos Inc. Lycos (www.lycos.com) constantly rates sites on the World Wide Web based on content, presentation and experience.

The site was judged by Lycos' editorial staff from among 10,000 sites on the World Wide Web, and rated according to its effectiveness for promoting or extending a company's business. The results of the survey were published in Inter@ctive Week, a weekly magazine about the Internet.

The review of the site on Lycos says: "All the important stuff you would want to know about the media conglomerate that owns the San Francisco Examiner and distributes the "Beetle Bailey" comic strip can be found on its corporate home page. And most important of all, of course, is the scoop on founder William Randolph Hearst's California-hilltop castle -- La Cuesta Encantada ("The Enchanted Hill"). Movie fans will be murmuring "Rosebud" as they take the online tour of the mansion that'll remind them of Xanadu from the movie Citizen Kane. An online history of the Hearst Corporation begins in 1887 when William Randolph took control of the newspaper his father received as payment for a gambling debt. Now the list of Hearst properties includes a chain of newspapers, cable networks and the columns of Dr. Ruth Westheimer."

Lycos' also rated the Hearst site as among the top 5% of all sites on the World Wide Web.
