History

As early as 1985, Cal Vornberger, who later founded Tumble, was creating computer illustrations for television. Already a well-respected art director for television and films, Cal combined his design talents and his interest in personal computers to help create a new market for his services.

Cal, who remains Tumble's president and creative director, incorporated Tumble in 1988 while working out of his apartment in Manhattan's Upper West side and teaching computer illustration and multimedia design at the Pratt Institute.

Focusing on multimedia for the corporate market, Tumble began growing rapidly. In 1995 when Tumble's staff grew from one to five the Company moved to a large loft in the heart of NYC's Silicon Alley in Tribeca.

By the end of 1996, Tumble had grown into a multi-million dollar business. With more than 15 employees, Tumble recently moved to a new location on 23rd Street and Fifth Ave.

Asked why he picked the name "Tumble" for the company, Cal replied, "I was looking for an action word-something whimsical that implied movement. Tumblers are acrobats who exhibit a high degree of skill and creativity. Everything they do has to be precisely timed, and as performers they must meet constant deadlines. It seemed like the perfect name for the kind of company I had in mind."
